Industrial LED lights that last a lifetime

We’ve heard the reasons why switching to LEDs is worth it – better energy efficiency, longer life, less maintenance.

Less is said about the things to look out for when breaking with the past and choosing to install an LED system.

There is also a huge choice in the industrial LED segment, with millions of products from millions of manufacturers, it is easy to get lost and make the wrong choice. It’s a bit like buying a car, you have to tailor the technical content to your needs, it’s no good paying for little, and it’s no good paying a hefty price for features you don’t really need. And, of course, you have to pay attention to the quality of the materials used and the manufacturing.

The most important component of an LED luminaire is the light-emitting diode array itself, and it is worth looking closely at the lifetime guaranteed by the manufacturer. Before purchasing, it is also important to check that the product has the relevant international certifications recognised by the EU.

Unlike conventional light bulbs, LED lighting cannot burn out in the classic sense of the word. Two common faults are common with low-quality, but not necessarily cheap, LED luminaires. The first is light fading, which is a natural process for LED luminaires. As the number of operating hours increases, the LED diode array loses brightness. This is the case with the best products, the question is how much. For example, the Prometheus range of luminaires we offer can only lose up to 30 per cent of their original brightness after seven years of continuous use, which is an outstanding performance on the market.

The LED diode array is therefore a priority, but far from the only one to watch out for. The best diode array in the world is useless if the armature itself or the capacitors used are of poor quality. Many of you will have experienced annoying, flashing LED lights, a very annoying phenomenon that is always due to the poor quality of the capacitors used.

All in all, an LED luminaire that is made with a high quality diode array, capacitors and an armature that is resistant to environmental and other mechanical stresses will serve us for many years, if not a lifetime.
